1. Tell a Story, 1-2-3 -While not listed as a focus standard for this Common Core Curriculum Unit, "Tell a Story", activities that include identifying the author and illustrator and defining their roles are provided under student objectives and sample activities and assessments/literature. 2. Building a Matrix for Leo Lionni Books: An Author Study - Students listen to four stories from one author and compare two of them. This is a K-2 lesson from ReadWriteThink which can be adapted for kindergarten by having the children listen to two stories by the same author. Discussion via question and answer could lead the children to determine some similarities between the two books and discuss what they like about the story (and the way the author writes). 3. Map It Out- This lesson that is explores how illustrations contribute to the telling of a story.  This lesson can be used with non-readers as the focus is a read-aloud of a short book with an activity that helps students understand the importance of illustrations. 4. Catching the Bug for Reading Through Interactive Read-Alouds -Use this lesson on Interactive Read-Alouds with any good book and expand it to meet this standard by identifying the author and illustrator.
